I've had numerous piano tutors and have come to the conclusion that the majority of private tutors are people that are highly skilled in playing the piano but much less skilled in teaching. Very few of them have had teaching qualifications and are simply using their piano skills to earn a living without paying proper attention to the teaching process. Obviously this doean't apply across the board, there are some wonderful teachers out there. All I'd say is check out their teaching credentials before you start.
Me? I've resorted to teach-yourself methods and find them a) cheaper
b) more effective
c) less stressful.
